My name is Kelly Campbell, and outside of working with my own four children, I enjoy few things more than coaching young adults to become responsible, independent, and confident. After seeing teens turn around – from failing six courses to applying for college; from dishonesty, fear of failure, and insecurity to confidence and contentment; from failing to do what I ask, to telling me what they’ve already done – and hearing from parents that my work with their student has not only changed the student’s life, but the entire family dynamic and their relationship with their child for the better, I’ve decided to expand my work to support more students. My approach has been successful because I do not have a one-size-fits-all method, and offer continuing wrap-around support to the student. Struggling with executive function is not a “knowing” problem, it is a “doing” problem; students with ADHD or other executive function challenges usually know what they should be doing, but don’t do it, so it’s important that support is not dropped between sessions. I analyze the student and their unique situation, and execute an individualized, flexible, and collaborative plan responsive to the needs of the student. This is a program, not a one-hour delivery of information; and it is organic and flexible, not another rigid system the student has to fit in to. Figuring out how to meet students where they are and getting them to where they can be is the best part of my job.
